Best Free Prompter is a free teleprompter that runs in the web browser. Paste or type a script, press Space, and read. It scrolls at a fixed speed or follows your voice as you speak. There is no sign-up, no download and no watermark, and the script is stored only in your own browser; it is never uploaded.

## What it does

- **Follow my voice:** voice-activated scrolling in Chrome, Edge and Safari. Languages: English (US, UK), Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch. Recent Chrome can recognise speech on the device.
- **Fixed speed:** slider, arrow keys or mouse wheel.
- **Two looks while following:** "Mark words" (highlights the current word) or "Soft" (fades read lines, smoother scrolling).
- **Microphone choice** with a level meter in Chrome and Edge.
- **Phone remote** via QR code: play, pause, rewind, scroll, speed. Only commands pass between devices, never the script.
- **Second screen:** a link (or QR code) that shows only the text on another device, such as an iPad on a teleprompter rig. It follows scrolling and live edits, with its own mirror, flip and text size. The script is end-to-end encrypted (AES-GCM, key in the link's #fragment); the server cannot read it.
- **Mirror mode** for beam-splitter teleprompter glass.
- **Script history** on the left edge: switch between saved scripts, rename, download or import .txt.
- **Paste from Word and Google Docs** with formatting kept.
- Text size (pinch on touch screens), side margins, alignment, colours, fullscreen.

## Keyboard

- Space: play or pause
- Esc: leave edit mode, close panels, or jump to the start
- Up/Down: speed (fixed speed) or move a line (voice follow)
- Double-click the text: edit it
- Mouse to the left edge: script history; right edge: settings; top: playback controls

## Privacy

Script and settings stay in the browser's local storage. No account, no cookies, no ads. Anonymous cookieless analytics (DataFast) count usage events and never include the script or audio. Details: https://www.bestfreeprompter.com/privacy/
