Privacy: your script stays on your device
Best Free Prompter is built so your words stay yours. Here is exactly what is stored, where, and what is never sent anywhere.
Open the free teleprompter No sign-up. Works in your browser.
The short version
- Your script never leaves your device. It is saved only in your browser's local storage.
- No account, no sign-up, no cookies.
- No ads and nothing is sold.
- Anonymous usage counts only, without cookies and never including your script.
Your script and settings
Everything you type or paste, and your settings (speed, text size, colours and so on), is stored in your browser's local storage on your device. It is not sent to our server or anyone else. It stays until you clear your browser data or press Reset settings.
Follow my voice
Voice follow uses the speech recognition built into your browser. In recent versions of Chrome this can run entirely on your device, and the settings show when it does. In other browsers the browser sends the audio to its own speech service for recognition (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Apple for Safari) under that company's privacy terms. Best Free Prompter never receives or stores your audio, and the microphone is only used while voice follow is playing or while the level meter in Settings is open.
Phone remote
When you use your phone as a remote, the two devices connect through our server using a short random session code. Only control commands pass through it, such as play, pause, speed and scroll. Your script is never sent, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
Analytics
We use DataFast in cookieless mode to count visits and a few anonymous actions, such as starting the teleprompter, turning on voice follow, pasting a script (only its approximate length and whether it came from Word or Google Docs) and connecting a phone remote. This tells us which features are used. It never includes your script, your voice or anything that identifies you.
Hosting
The site is served from our own server. Like any web server it briefly handles technical request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages. Fonts load from Google Fonts and the QR code library from cdnjs.
